Ciena 6500. BROADBAND AND PHOTONIC LAYER OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE WITH EMS. Транспондеры и оптическая часть. Эксплуатация.

Course Description:

This blended-learning kit is designed for personnel responsible for the Operation, Administration, Maintenance, and Provisioning (OAM&P) of 6500 Broadband (BB) and Photonic Layer (PL) node and network being managed by the OneControl Unified Management System. This kit is comprised of Instructor-Led Training (ILT) or Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT), plus prerequisite Web-Based Training (WBT). Students are required to complete the WBTs prior to the ILT/VILT portion of the kit.
This kit includes:

  • WBT O505 – 6500 Product Overview
  • WBT O611 – OneControl Overview
  • WBT O615 – OneControl Alarm Monitoring and Audit Logging
  • WBT CN06 – ESD, Laser Safety, and Fiber Cleaning
  • ILT O-227 or VILT X227 – 6500 BB and PL Operation and Maintenance with EMS

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Hardware and configuration:
    • Provide an overview of the 6500 Family
    • Describe the 6500 common hardware
    • Explain the features and functions of the 6500 hardware modules (BB, PL)
    • List the 6500 Photonic Layer configurations and visualize signal flow through the different site types
  • User interfaces:
    • Identify the various interfaces used for managing the 6500
    • Describe the Site Manager user interface
    • Describe the OneControl network manager system
    • Provision and manage the 6500 with the Site Manager user interface and
  • OneControl network manager system:
    • Equipment and facility
    • Photonic Layer level provisioning (OTS and adjacencies)
    • Wavelength services
    • Wavelength services restoration and reversion
  • Fault Management, Performance Monitoring, Protection, and Synchronization:
    • Explore OneControl fault management tools (Dashboard, Network Map)
    • Clear alarms using fault management procedures
    • Describe and Perform the Performance Monitoring procedures according to the product documentation
    • Explain the various equipment and traffic protection mechanisms (BB, PL)
    • Identify synchronization and protection schemes available for BB services
  • Product documentation, safety and fiber cleaning:
    • Describe Ciena’s product documentation
    • Define Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) and identify the precautions used to minimize risk of damage caused from ESD
    • Identify laser safety guidelines and recommended cleaning techniques

Conditions for Instructor-Led Training:

  • The maximum number of students for this course is 10.
  • Lectures take place in a classroom using projector presentations
  • Demonstrations and exercises will be conducted in the classroom and training lab.
  • Students receive course presentation material and product documentation on a USB drive.
  • If the ILT portion of this kit is delivered outside a Ciena facility where captive lab equipment is not available, the lab equipment in a Ciena facility can be accessed remotely using a WebEx connection. Remote lab equipment access does have limitations with respect to the amount of tests and procedures that can be performed.

Prerequisites:

To be successful in this blended-learning kit, students should have a basic knowledge of:

  • Fiber optics and digital communications technology
  • Telecommunications systems
  • Basic knowledge of Synchronous Optical Network (SONET)/Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH), Optical Transport Network (OTN), Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), and Ethernet protocols
  • Experience using a Command Line Interface (CLI) and a Graphical User Interface (GUI), such as a Web browser
  • Experience configuring a test setup and handling fiber and Local Area Network (LAN) cables
  • Recommended: Completion of Ciena’s Optical Communications – Associate (OC-A) Certification

Additionally, prior to attending the Instructor-led portion of this kit, students
should have completed:

  • CN06 – ESD, Laser Safety, and Fiber Cleaning [duration: 30 minutes]
  • O505 – 6500 Product Overview [duration: 2 hours 30 minutes]
  • O611 – OneControl Product Overview [duration: 2 hours 30 minutes]
  • O615 – OneControl Alarm Monitoring and Audit Logging [duration: 45 minutes]

Conditions for Prerequisite Web-based Training:

Interactive Web-based presentations are conducted on:

  • Personal Computer (PC) Windows XP or later
  • MAC OSX 10.6.x or later
  • Sound card with external speakers or headphones
  • Browser support:
    • PC: Microsoft Internal Explorer 8.x or later; Firefox 3.6.x or later; Google Chrome 10.x or later
    • MAC: Apple Safari 4.0.x or later
  • Students need to ensure that any pop-up blocker is disabled.
  • Macromedia Flash Player and/or Windows Media Player web browser plugins are required.
  • Reference documents are available on the Ciena portal.

Duration:

The average time to complete the training courses in this kit is approximately 6 hours and 15 minutes for the Web-based components and 5 days for the instructor-led course.
