Ciena 6500. BROADBAND AND PHOTONIC LAYER OAM&P KIT DEDICATED CLASS. Транспондеры и оптическая часть. Эксплуатация.

Course Description:

This Instructor-Led Training (ILT) course is designed for personnel responsible for the Operation, Administration, Maintenance, and Provisioning (OAM&P) of a 6500 Broadband (BB) and Photonic Layer (PL) node and network.


Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Describe the Common Hardware for the 6500
  • Describe Safety and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) guidelines that must be applied when working on optical products
  • Identify key features of Ciena documentation
  • Describe the 6500 User Interface and Administration features and perform various activities with Site Manager
  • Describe the key parameters required in the initial nodal System Line-up And Testing (SLAT) process, as well as the Data Communication features of the 6500
  • Describe the Broadband equipment
  • Explain equipment and facility states
  • Identify Synchronization and Protection schemes available for BB services
  • Identify the Performance Monitoring features
  • Perform the Performance Monitoring procedures according to the Technical Publication
  • Clear alarms using Fault Management procedures
  • Identify the 6500 Photonic Layer hardware
  • List the 6500 Photonic Layer configurations
  • Visualize the 6500 Photonic Layer Signal flow through the different site types
  • Perform Equipment and Facility Provisioning
  • Perform Photonic Layer level Provisioning (Optical Transport Section (OTS) and adjacencies)
  • Add and Delete a wavelength from a system
  • Describe the 6500 Photonic Layer Performance Monitoring (PM) features
  • Retrieve PM data from a node
  • Clear alarms using Fault Management procedure

Conditions for Instructor-Led Training:

  • There is a maximum of 10 students
  • Lectures will take place in a classroom using projector displays
  • Demonstrations and exercises will be conducted in the classroom and training lab


To be successful in this course, students should have the following skills and knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of fiber optics and digital communications technology
  • Recommended: Ciena’s Optical Communications – Associate (OC-A) Certification

Additionally, students should have completed the Web-Based Training (WBT) as required by the K224 blended-learning kit:

  • WBT CN06 – ESD, Laser Safety, and Fiber Cleaning (duration: 30 minutes)
  • WBT O505 – 6500 Product Overview (duration: 2 hours 30 minutes)


The average time for this instructor-led training course is 4 days plus 3 hours for the prerequisite WBTs.
